New Kampala Lord Mayor Balimwezo Vows to Unite and Transform City
Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has officially been sworn in as the new Lord Mayor of Kampala, promising to lead the city with accountability, unity, and a strong focus on improving services for residents.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at City Hall and attracted political, cultural, and civic leaders from across the country. Among those present were Joel Ssenyonyi, the Nakawa West Member of Parliament and spokesperson of the National Unity Platform, who escorted Balimwezo to the ceremony.

Also in attendance were Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Information and Publicity, and Sharifah Buzeki, Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority.

In his speech after taking office, Balimwezo described his victory as a result of faith, determination, and support from ordinary residents who believed in his vision for Kampala.

“Sincerely speaking, many did not believe that I would defeat leaders who had spent many years in politics. But I trusted God and continued moving forward,” Balimwezo said.

He thanked religious leaders, cultural leaders, campaign teams, volunteers, coordinators, and residents who stood by him throughout the campaign period.

According to Balimwezo, the election was not only about politics but also about giving Kampala a new direction built on cooperation and service delivery.

The new Lord Mayor also praised his fellow contestants, including Elias Lugado, Moses Kizito, David Adaga, Kevin Masgira, and Jonathan, saying they all shared one goal of seeing Kampala become a better city.

“Though we had different ideas, we were united by the desire to serve the people and improve Kampala,” he said.

Balimwezo promised to work closely with leaders at all levels to address some of the biggest challenges affecting residents, including poor drainage systems, road infrastructure, waste management, and public services.

He said his leadership will focus on bringing people together and ensuring that Kampala residents receive the services they deserve.

His swearing-in comes at a time when many city residents are calling for cleaner neighborhoods, improved roads, better drainage channels, and stronger cooperation between political and technical leaders at City Hall.

Many supporters at the ceremony expressed hope that the new leadership will bring practical solutions and renewed energy to the management of Uganda’s capital city.
