Musician Pius Mayanja, popularly known as Pallaso, has come out in defense of Eddy Kenzo, the President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), following backlash over his recent comments about Kadongo Kamu artists
Earlier this month, Kenzo stirred controversy after stating that some Kadongo Kamu musicians have struggled financially despite spending many years in the industry
His remarks drew criticism from veteran artists, some of whom emotionally responded during a press conference
However, Pallaso believes Kenzo’s words were taken out of context.
According to him, the intention was not to disrespect or belittle the older generation of musicians
He explained that Kenzo was highlighting the reality that many veteran artists worked hard but were limited by challenges such as piracy and weak industry systems, which prevented them from fully benefiting from their music
Pallaso added that while these artists created timeless classics, they lacked access to platforms like social media and the multiple income streams available to today’s musicians, which has widened the gap between generations in the industry
