Just hours after talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad ended without agreement, US President Donald Trump warned that American forces could begin blocking ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of a major escalation in the region
In a series of strong statements, Trump said the US Navy has been ordered to stop and inspect vessels in international waters, especially those suspected of paying what he described as illegal tolls to Iran, arguing that such actions threaten free movement and global trade
He added that while there is still hope for open passage in the future, Iran’s actions have made that difficult, stressing that no ship involved in such payments would be guaranteed safe travel across the seas under current conditions
The US president also signaled readiness for further action, saying Washington remains prepared and could act at any moment, while accusing Iran of refusing to abandon its nuclear ambitions, a key issue that continues to block progress in negotiations
