Speaking during a news conference in Moscow, Putin recalled how Russia successfully moved enriched uranium out of Iran in 2015 under an international nuclear agreement. He said Russia is fully prepared to carry out the same operation again if all sides agree.
“We are ready to repeat this experience,” Putin told reporters.
According to the Russian president, earlier discussions involving several countries had produced a shared understanding on removing the uranium from Iran. However, he said disagreements later emerged after the United States insisted that the uranium should be transferred only to American territory.
Putin explained that the change in Washington’s position influenced Tehran’s response and complicated the process.
“All parties had agreed to move the uranium out of Iran,” he said. “But then the United States hardened its position and demanded that the uranium be transported exclusively to US territory. Iran then hardened its position. ”
Despite the disagreements, Putin stressed that Russia would continue communicating with both Tehran and Washington in search of a solution acceptable to all parties.
He also expressed hope that the ongoing dispute surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities would be resolved quickly through dialogue and cooperation.
“Moscow will remain in contact with both sides,” Putin said, adding that he hopes the conflict ends “as quickly as possible. ”
Iranian officials had not issued an immediate response following Putin’s remarks.
Russia has long positioned itself as an important player in negotiations linked to Iran’s nuclear programme. In 2015, Moscow played a significant role in implementing the international nuclear deal that aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
Political analysts say Putin’s latest comments could open the door for renewed diplomatic engagement as global powers continue searching for a workable agreement on Iran’s nuclear future.
The remarks also underline Russia’s desire to maintain influence in international negotiations at a time when major world powers remain divided over how to handle Iran’s growing uranium stockpile.
